It's been quite the week for the National Hockey League and Hollywood. As Wysh told you about on Thursday, San Jose Sharks center Jeremy Roenick will continue his quest for an Emmy Award with an upcoming guest spot on TNT's new show "Leverage".
This past Thursday night, a former NHL'er and soon-to-be Hockey Hall of Famer showed up on the latest episode of FOX' crime-drima, "Bones", featuring noted hockey fan and former NHL.com playoff blogger, David Boreanaz.
A regular guest on NHL Live, Boreanaz' character, Seeley Booth, plays in an adult hockey league when he's not putting Mystery, Inc. out of business. While zeroing on a murder suspect, Booth goes all Chris Pronger on said suspect during one of their hockey games in hopes of acquiring a blood sample. Before Booth can engage in a fight, the suspect pulls a Chris Simon and knocks him unconscious. In a dream sequence, Booth "awakens" laid flat on the ice, dressed in an old school Bobby Clarke Philadelphia Flyers jersey being helped up by former Los Angeles King Luc Robitaille; but not before "Lucky Luc" skates up and wakes Booth up with a snow shower.
While the two play a little game of shinny that consists of just passing and no shooting (hey, that sounds like the 2008-09 Pittsburgh Penguins), Booth suddenly realizes "enough of this hockey, I need to solve a murder", but not before Robitaille tells him, "it's not about the blood", which later on turns out to be true in regards to the case as Booth and his partner, ‘Bones' Brennan played by the lovely Emily Deschanel, eventually solve the crime. Funny how that always seems to happen.
Robitaille is no stranger to being in front of the camera. If I may do my best Troy McClure impression: You might remember him from such hockey films as D2: The Mighty Ducks and the almighty Sudden Death.
In this behind the scenes look at the filming of "Fire in the Ice", Robitaille tells Kings website host Heidi Androl (rawr) that forgetting his lines was his only major concern beforehand. Oh, and we're treated with Boreanaz' poor attempt (yet still better than Steve Martin in The Pink Panther) at a French accent:
