Quakes' Top Pick Has Dark Past, Bright Future

What if, in fear for your life and the welfare of your family, you had to flee not only your home but also your country?

That’s what happened to the newest member of the San Jose Earthquakes, their top draft pick Siad Haji.

Haji turned 19 in December, but he’s a junior in college and became the No. 2 overall selection in the January Major League Soccer draft.

"When you hear your name called, it’s crazy, man," Haji said. "Like, I just remember them calling my name. I spoke to my coaches. It’s go time, you know?"

The Earthquakes foresee potential greatness in Haji. His is a bright future that comes with a dark past.
