John Bowie is the third-year cornerback who will live in infamy as the player for whom the Raiders traded Randy Moss. Bowie was waived by the team Thursday, the Oakland Tribune reports. He had been placed on injured reserve for a knee injury suffered in Sunday's Raiders' loss to the Broncos.
Bowie was the only remnant of the Raiders' Randy Moss experiment. In 2005, the Raiders traded Napoleon Harris and their first-round pick (seventh overall) to the Vikings for Moss, the game's top receiver.
Moss played only when he wanted to play, and had his worst season ever in 2006. The Raiders traded Moss to New England in 2007 for a fourth-round pick, used to select John Bowie.
Since then, Randy Moss has had two consecutive 1,000-yard seasons, caught 34 touchdowns, and has been to a Pro Bowl and a Super Bowl.
John Bowie recorded two tackles in his career. He is now out of football.
It might not have been the worst trade in NFL history, but it was certainly the worst trade in Raiders' history.
