Raiders Exploring Prospect of Playing Preseason Game in Canada

The Raiders are exploring the prospect of playing a preseason game in Canada, team sources have said. There's no deal to play an exhibition north of the border at this stage, but the team is looking closely at the possibility of such a trip.

It would likely be a home game played outside the East Bay, though the exact opponent, date and game site remain unknown.

Canadian football website reported Monday that the Raiders could play Regina, where the CFL's Saskatchewan Rough Riders play.

The Raiders have already been assigned to play a regular-season home game in London next season. If both games are played abroad, the Raiders would play just eight contests – one exhibition and seven regular seasons – at Oakland Coliseum next season.

The Raiders are close to finalizing a deal to play at Oakland Coliseum, before an expected move to Las Vegas in 2020. There's a lease option with Oakland Coliseum for that season, should their stadium experience unexpected construction delays.

The Raiders are also speaking with the Los Angeles Rams about conducting joint training camp practice, per the Las Vegas Review-Journal. That arrangement isn't set yet, either, so it's uncertain where those practices would be held if there's an agreement. The Raiders train in Napa and the Rams train in Thousand Oaks.

The Raiders and Detroit Lions practiced together in Napa before the 2018 exhibition opener for both teams at Oakland Coliseum.
