The Raiders almost landed Ryan Grant one year ago, but didn't miss their chance this year. They locked down the wide receiver on a one-year contract Wednesday morning.
The wideout agreed to a long-term pact with Baltimore last offseason, but the deal fell apart following a controversial failed physical. He visited the Raiders after that disappointment but ended up taking a one-year deal with Indianapolis.
He ended up back on the open market this spring following a lackluster year with the Colts. Grant joins Oakland as part of a complete positional overhaul -- he's the fourth new receiver added in the last month. The Raiders traded for Antonio Brown and signed Tyrell Williams as featured players.
They've also added J.J. Nelson and Grant to flesh out the depth chart, something mandatory after Jordy Nelson was released and subsequently retired.
Grant didn't play much in the slot last year, but has experience working inside during four years in Washington. He has been a stable third receiver in the past, a role he'll be asked to fill with the Raiders. Incumbent Seth Roberts has plenty of slot experience and will compete for that role as well, though all these imports don't bode well for those already here.
The Raiders have added so many receivers that they won't feel pressed to add one high in the draft – defense should be the draft's focus in 2019 -- though they still could if the right value presents itself.
Grant had a career-high 45 receptions for 573 yards and four touchdowns for Washington in 2017. Raiders head coach Jon Gruden has a complete scouting report on Grant from his brother Jay Gruden, Washington's head coach.

The Raiders would welcome those numbers from a third receiver who should see favorable matchups with Brown and Williams in the pattern.
