Rangers' 23-year-old on Pace to Break MLB Record Held by Barry Bonds

Barry Bonds is baseball's Home Run King, but one of his power records is in jeopardy this year.

Rangers' 23-year-old third baseman Joey Gallo, in his third MLB season, is on pace to eclipe Bonds' mark with the highest percentage of hits coming as home runs in a 30-home run season, according to Elias Sports Bureau.

In 2001, 47 percent of Bonds' hits left the yard.

This year, through 113 Rangers games, 48 percent of Gallo's hits have cleared the fence.

Bonds is baseball's all-time leader with 762 home runs, 2,558 walks and 688 intentional walks. He connected on home runs in 25.9 percent of his 2,935 career hits.

Gallo has 39 home runs in three MLB seasons, commanding 43.3 percent of his 90 career hits.
