The San Francisco Giants were spurned in their basketball jones, but it appears the Golden State Warriors may yet be eying the San Francisco waterfront as their new home.
No Giants required.
The Warriors "shunned" an offer from the Giants to construct a stadium on the south side of AT&T Park, on land currently used for the Giants parking lot. So the Giants moved ahead with plans to transform that landscape into homes, offices, shops and more without basketball -- because the Warriors are eying a stadium of their very own, with no "Giants as a middleman," according to the San Francisco Chronicle's Matier and Ross.
Citing anonymous sources, Matier and Ross report that the Warriors "are eying 13 acres of concrete and pilings" at Piers 30-32. Most recently, the area was to be set aside for dockyards and other facilities for the America's Cup race before that event was scaled back.
No official word has come out of the Warriors' offices, except to say the team is weighing all of its options.
The Warriors' lease at Oracle Arena in Oakland expires at the end of the 2016-2017 season.
