Giants free agent reliever Sergio Romo is still seeking a team to lace up his spikes and toe the rubber with just a few weeks away from pitchers and catchers reporting for spring training.
While a reunion in San Francisco seems highly unlikely, the Giants may still see plenty of Romo in 2017. The veteran right-hander is reportedly down to two remaining teams in free agency -- the Dodgers and an unidentified team.
On Tuesday, Romo shared his desire to return to the Giants, but acknowledged it was definitely a long shot. "I'd love to go back to San Francisco, but at this point, it doesn't seem to be in the cards," Romo said to SiriusXm's MLB Network Radio. "It seems more of a possibility that I will go elsewhere."
Over his nine-year MLB career, Romo has made nearly $27 million, including $9 million in 2016. But, money isn't a factor on the open market for Romo, 33, who will turn 34 in March before the season begins.
"I'm looking for that right situation. I'm thankful that teams are still calling. But right now, it's not really money," says Romo. "It's not. It's more so finding exactly the place I need to go, the place I know I'll be able to have the privilege of saying, like I did in San Francisco, that I went to work happy every day."
Behind only San Francisco's AT&T Park and Arizona's Chase Field, the stadium Romo has appeared in the third-most times in his career is Dodgers Stadium in Los Angeles. And, Romo has put up some of his best numbers against the Giants' biggest rival.

Appearing out of the bullpen 27 times, Romo owns a 1.82 ERA in 24.2 innings pitched at Dodger Stadium. He has struck out 31 Dodgers to only three walks on the road.
Romo was used in multiple roles for the Giants last season, including as a closer while the team struggled to finish games. Though he posted a 2.64 ERA to go with a perfect 1-0 record in 40 games, Romo had an up-and-down season as he also battled injuries.
Spending all nine of his years in the majors with the Giants, Romo has compiled a 32-26 record with 84 saves. Romo was named an NL All-Star in 2013 and won three World Series (2010, 2012 and 2014) with the Giants.
