SAN FRANCISCO -- With just a few days until the annual GM Meetings, the Giants appear to be getting serious with candidates for their opening atop the baseball operations department.
According to MASN, Kim Ng, an MLB executive, interviewed with the Giants on Sunday. Ng was the first known candidate to take over the front office. She would became the first woman to lead a baseball operations department.
The Giants have not committed to having a new executive in place by the GM Meetings, which kick off Tuesday in Carlsbad. Vice president of baseball operations Brian Sabean is expected to represent the team there, but at some point in the coming weeks, the team will need to make a decision.
Free agency usually kicks into a higher gear after the GM Meetings and the Giants need new leadership in place well in advance of December's Winter Meetings.
Ng, formerly an assistant GM with the Yankees and Dodgers, is one of several known to have drawn interest from Sabean and Larry Baer, who have been criss-crossing the country interviewing candidates.
Chaim Bloom is also high on the list, and Baer hoped to get a second interview with Bloom, per a source. It's unclear if that has already happened. The Giants also reportedly interviewed Jason McLeod of the Cubs and Amiel Sawdaye of the Diamondbacks.
A source confirmed an MLB.com report that the Giants are also interested in Dodgers GM Farhan Zaidi.
