Reports: Raiders Hire Allen

Team hires 8th head coach since 1998

The Raiders appear to have their eighth head coach in little more than 10 years. Dennis Allen, the former defensive coordinator of the Denver Broncos, is reported to be replacing Hue Jackson. The Raiders have yet to confirm Allen’s hiring.

Allen is a bit of an unknown. He got his start coaching secondaries in college. He scored his first NFL coaching job in 2002 as a secondary coach with the Atlanta Falcons. He joined the New Orleans Saint’s coaching staff in 2005 before becoming the Broncos defensive coordinator just last year. The Bay Area News Group’s Monte Poole isn’t sold.
Allen is a change of pace for the Raiders. Once his signing is official he will become the team’s first defensive minded head coach since John Madden was hired in 1969.
Since 1998 Jon Gruden, Bill Callahan, Norv Turner, Art Shell, Lane Kiffin, Tom Cable and Hue Jackson have all served as the Raiders head coach.
And if you think the Raiders head coach’s office should have a turnstile instead of a door consider this, the Broncos next defensive coordinator will be that team’s seventh in seven years.
