Road Collapse Changes Big Sur Marathon

The Big Sur International Marathon is one of the most beautiful runs in California and attracts thousands of people to the Monterey coast each year.

This year a road collapse along Highway 1  between Palo Colorado Road and Bixby Bridge has lead to big changes in the course.

The headline is that the marathon will be an "up and back."  The turnaround is yet to be determined but will be in the vicinity of Rocky Creek Bridge, according to race officials.

It will still take place on May 1, but will begin just before the Carmel River Bridge and head south on Highway 1.

The final configuration of the marathon course will be announced when it is certified for distance.
