San Francisco 49ers Quarterback Colin Kaepernick Wears Shirt to Honor Black Panther Party

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick paid tribute to the Black Panther Party following Sunday's game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Kaepernick was seen wearing a Black Panthers shirt while he talked to reporters. The outspoken quarterback the week before sported a Muhammad Ali shirt following a loss to the Buffalo Bills.

"To pay homage," Kaepernick answered when asked at the time about wearing the Ali shirt. "He fought a very similar fight and was trying to do what's right for the people. And for me to be able to have someone like that come before me is huge.

Kaepernick this season has refused to stand for the national anthem before games in protest of racial discrimination against blacks in the United States, particularly after a spate of police shootings of African Americans.

Kaepernick wearing a Black Panther Party shirt follows a day after former leaders and community members gathered in Oakland to honor the group's 50th anniversary.

During the month of October, the Black Panthers have been praised for combating racial injustice and taking time to uplift the battered African American community.
