At some point, the Little League team from Petaluma will have to get back to the mundane things in life: homework, bedtime, and chores.
But not tonight. The school night life will have to be put on hold as the boys get a heroes welcome from the San Francisco Giants.
The North Bay team that came in third place in the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Penn., last month has been invited by the San Francisco Giants to tonight's game against the Rockies where they will be treated to an onfield visit during batting practice. They will also be honored in a home plate pre-game ceremony.
The Petaluma team captured the Bay Area's attention when they earned a spot in the Little League World Series, as the Western Division champions.
They made it all the way to the USA final. The team battled back from a 10-run deficit to force extra innings against a team from Goodlesttsville, Tenn., (on national television no less). Tennessee won the game and the World Series title. But Petaluma won the hearts of the nation for battling back against the odds.
The Petaluma boys have been honored with limo rides, a downtown parade, a pizza party hosted by Matt Cain and a night across the Bay with the Oakland A's.
Tomorrow, it's back to school.
