Willie Brown: Giants President Leading Push to Have San Francisco Host 2024 Olympics

It looks like San Francisco could be getting serious about bringing the Olympics to town in 2024.

No less an authority than former Mayor Willie Brown says that the man leading the very real push to bring the Olympics to the city is Giants president Larry Baer, he wrote in the Chronicle.

The idea is to build a new temporary stadium to host the games in Brisbane, near the to-be-demolished Candlestick Park, that would be torn down as soon as the Games ended, Da Mayor wrote.

But, to accomodate that, the bid committee would need to offer spaces to have all the events in or around the city, meaning no far-flung events, and that transit developments like the Central Subway, the BART extension to San Jose and the Transbay Terminal all need to be completed.

Long shot? Maybe, but the city is serious about it, at least according to the man who used to be mayor.
