The San Jose Sharks have selected forward Joe Pavelski as the Sharks Foundation "Sharks Player of the Month" for December, officials announced Saturday.
This is the fifth time Pavelski has received the honor.
Pavelski scored nine goals in December, which was more than any other player in the National Hockey League. He led all Sharks scorers with 12 points, which is a combination of nine goals and three assists.
He now ranks second on the team in points with 32 and first on the team in goals with 19. His 19 goals rank him as the fifth highest scorer in the NHL this season.
The player of the month award recognizes players who contributed the most to the team's success that month.
