San Francisco Mayor Pitches Kevin Durant on Staying With Warriors

Will Kevin Durant play in the brand-new Chase Center as a member of the Warriors next season?

That's the burning question making all Warriors fans nervous the closer we get to July.

San Francisco mayor London Breed is one of those who wants to see Durant stay with the Warriors for a long time. Recently, Breed told The Undefeated's Marc J. Spears that she spoke with Durant and made a pitch for him to stay long-term.

"Well, I'm not going to reveal all my persuasion tactics," Breed said. "But, yes, I let him know how much we love him in San Francisco and how we all look forward to seeing him play here. He and the other players are all really good guys, and the community needs role models like them."

The Warriors themselves have been trying to make sure Durant is on the team when Chase Center opens next fall. They had Durant - not Steph Curry, Klay Thompson or Draymond Green - at the groundbreaking back in January 2017. And in November, KD and Warriors guard Quinn Cook toured the construction site.

"I've been hearing about it for so long," Durant told Spears. "Two years ago, I went to the groundbreaking. Now, I just wanted to see how far they've come with it. It looks amazing. I just wanted to see it."

One thing working in Breed's favor is that Durant lives in San Francisco, rather than the East Bay. According to Spears, Durant is the only member of the Warriors who lives in San Francisco.

"I wanted to be in the big city and mix it up a little bit," Durant said. "It's close to the [Bay] Bridge and the practice facility and arena [in Oakland]. I wanted to try it out. I've never lived in a big city before by myself. I wanted to learn more about the flow of the city."

What does Durant like about The City?

"I just like the vibe," Durant told Spears. "It's chill. Relaxing. There is not too much going on, but there is still a lot going on. People are pretty cool, open and diverse. San Francisco is one of those cities that is always going to be booming. There is always going to be growth in the city. I guess you can call me a ‘millennial' living there now. It puts a different perspective on life."

Let's hope KD's affection for San Francisco, along with Mayor Breed's pitch, will keep him in the Bay Area for the next few years.
