So Much for Competition: Lowry Headed to DL

It was supposed to be the biggest battle on the Giants pitching staff this spring, as Noah Lowry and Jonathan Sanchez duked it out for the role of fifth starter.  But now the disabled list has gotten in the way.

The good news is that Lowry has been told by orthopedist Dr. James Andrews that there is no structural damage in his throwing shoulder.  The bad news is he will still start the season on the disabled list, and likely won't even be able to throw again until sometime in April.

That means the job belongs to Sanchez to start the season, making it his role to lose when and if Lowry is healthy again.
