The Giants’ main priority in free agency is to add to the rotation, ever after Kevin Gausman accepted his $18.9 million qualifying offer.
A former major league pitcher who had a solid season in the KBO appears to be on the team’s radar.
The Giants are one of the teams showing interest in pitcher Dan Straily, and have been in contact with him, a source confirmed to NBC Sports Bay Area on Friday.
Sportsgrid’s Craig Mish first reported the Giants' interest in Straily.
Straily posted a 2.50 ERA and a 1.02 WHIP with the Lotte Giants in 2020, while striking out 205 in 194 2/3 innings.

Prior to his time in the KBO, Straily played in eight MLB seasons with six teams including a three-year stint with the A’s. He has a career 4.56 ERA in the big leagues.

Straily could be an interesting addition to the rotation.
Giants president of baseball operations Farhan Zaidi always manages to find a diamond in the rough, or see something in an individual that the average person might not. If this were a possibility, it’s the perfect organization to help fine-tune what it would take to bring those KBO numbers to the states.
That same Giants staff was able to add velocity to Drew Smyly’s fastball, and the lefty was able to turn his original one-year, $4 million contract with the Giants into an $11 million deal with the Atlanta Braves this offseason.

Mish also reported, citing sources, that the 31-year-old is drawing interest from the Cincinnati Reds and the Los Angeles Angels. There is also interest in bringing Straily back to the KBO.
Straily was drafted by the A's in the 24th round of the 2009 MLB Draft, and last pitched in MLB in 2019 with the Baltimore Orioles.
