Source: A's to Call Up Prospect Sheldon Neuse With Khris Davis on Leave

A's No. 8 prospect Sheldon Neuse will be promoted to the big league club from the Triple-A Las Vegas Aviators on Thursday to replace Khris Davis who is out on paternity leave.

The San Francisco Chronicle's Susan Slusser originally reported the call-up which was later confirmed by NBC Sports California's Ben Ross:

This means the A's will need to make a corresponding move.

Typically a third baseman, Neuse has hit well this season in Triple-A slashing .317/..389/.550 with 27 home runs. This will be his first major-league call-up.

The 24-year-old was drafted in the second round of the 2016 Draft by the Washington Nationals. He was traded to the A's as part of the Sean Doolittle, Blake Treinen deal in July of 2017. That brought A's No. 1 prospect Jesus Luzardo to the A's as well.
