The season is winding down, but the Raiders aren't done adding depth in the backfield.
Anderson rushed for 104 yards on 24 carries in nine games with the Carolina Panthers earlier this season, but managed zero yards on three carries in his last two games before the Panthers released him on Nov. 12.
Doug Martin picked up the bulk of the Raiders' carries after Marshawn Lynch was placed on injured reserve after a Week 6 loss to the Seattle Seahawks, while Jalen Richard remained a fixture in the passing game. Anderson's signing could mean Lynch won't suit up the rest of the season.
The Raiders already designated Justin Ellis to return off injured reserve, meaning one of Lynch and offensive tackle Donald Penn will not be able to return to the team this year. With Martin, Richard, DeAndre Washington, and eventually Anderson all on the roster, the Silver and Black would likely need to make a corresponding move.
Anderson, like Lynch, is a Cal product. He seemed to acknowledge the move in a tweet with a word anyone from the East Bay would recognize.

There's no word yet whether or not the signing made Anderson want to get hyphy or go dumb.
