Sources: A's Close to Moving on From Free Agent Jed Lowrie

LAS VEGAS -- It's looking less and less likely that All-Star second baseman Jed Lowrie will be back in Oakland next season.

According to multiple sources, the A's are close to moving on from the 34-year-old and heading in a different direction.

Lowrie slashed .267/.353/.448 with a career-high 23 home runs and 99 RBI last year. In 11 major league seasons, he has a slash line of .262/.335/.414.

Oakland has a few other options at second base. The A's have had talks with two-time All-Star DJ LeMahieu, according to a source. LeMahieu, 30, slashed .276/.321/.428 with 15 home runs, 32 doubles and 62 RBI last season with the Rockies.

The second base free agent market also includes Daniel Murphy, Brian Dozier, Ian Kinsler, Asdrubal Cabrera and Logan Forsythe, among others.

Another option would be to give the everyday job to 22-year-old Franklin Barreto, who has impressed the team in winter ball this year in Venezuela. A's general manager David Forst confirmed that was a possibility.

The only major free agent second baseman to sign so far this offseason is Jonathan Schoop, who agreed to a one-year, $7.5 million contract with the Twins. Once the next free agent signs, the dominoes could quickly start to fall.
