Steph Curry Has Opportunity to Make Free-throw History in NBA Finals

Programming note: Watch the NBA Finals pregame edition of Warriors Outsiders on Thursday at 4 p.m., streaming live on the MyTeams app.

Steph Curry is the best shooter in the history of basketball.

To nobody's surprise, he's also one of the best free throw shooters the game has ever seen.

"I just don't like missing free throws in general," the two-time NBA MVP told NBC Sports' Tom Haberstroh after a recent Golden State practice.

Fortunately for Curry and the Warriors, he doesn't miss many.

The six-time All-Star is a career 90.5 percent shooter from the line, and he has made 94 percent (94-for-100) of his attempts during these playoffs.

Has anybody been better over a single postseason? Glad you asked. Haberstroh has the answer:

The only person in NBA history to shoot better on at least 100 free throws in a postseason is Dirk Nowitzki in 2011 when he made 175 of 186 (94.1 percent).

Over his last five games (with Kevin Durant sidelined), Curry is averaging 8.6 free throw attempts.

Let's assume Curry continues at that pace and the NBA Finals against the Raptors goes the full seven games. If the three-time NBA champion goes 57-for-60 from the charity stripe, that would put him at 151-for-160 during the playoffs.

That's good for a percentage of ...

... 94.38, and would vault him past Dirk.

If he makes "only" 56 of 60 attempts, he would finish at ...

... 93.8 percent.

That's pretty dang wild.

Don't assume Curry isn't aware of these numbers. He's as competitive as they come.

Enjoy Game 1...
