Stephen Curry Breaks Hand in Warriors' Loss to Suns; Recovery Timeline Unknown

The worst possible thing that could happen to the Warriors happened.

Stephen Curry broke his left hand during Wednesday night's 121-110 loss to the Phoenix Suns, the Warriors confirmed.

The Athletic's Marcus Thompson first reported that Curry had broken his left hand, shortly after the two-time NBA MVP exited the game at Chase Center in the second half.

Warriors general manager Bob Myers told NBC Sports Bay Area's Kerith Burke that Curry, who had X-rays on his left wrist and hand, would undergo a CT scan to determine next steps. Surgery is a possibility, as is a cast, and the estimated time of recovery is unknown at this time.

Warriors coach Steve Kerr spoke on the challenge that his team now faces without its leader and with a disappointing 1-3 start to the season.

"Obviously, it's been a tough start for us on many levels, so we're just trying to find our footing, and obviously this puts us in a tough spot," Kerr said. "So, we'll assess it and go from there.

"It's a great opportunity for these young guys to play. It's also a little bit too much. You want to bring along rookies as best you can, and we're just putting so much on their plate, but we have no choice with all the injuries. I think they have to just seize the opportunity, and as coaches, we have to help them do the best job they can and continue to learn."

Curry was injured when Suns big man Aron Baynes fell on top of the guard's left wrist after a collision under the basket. Curry appeared to be in immediate pain.

Curry went to the Warriors' locker room and didn't shoot the resulting free throws from Baynes' foul, ruling him out for the remainder of the game.

Kerr revealed that Baynes came over to the Warriors' bench after the game for an update on Curry.

"You could tell he felt really bad," Kerr said. "It's just a random basketball play. Stuff happens."
