Steve Kerr Not Happy With Warriors' Shots, the Analytics Prove His Point

Through three games, the Warriors' offense is behind their defense, and the statistics prove that.

Here's how Golden State stacks up with the rest of the league in several categories:

-Points per game = 110.0 (19th)
-Offensive rating = 107.5 (18th)
-3-point percentage = 32.4 (24th)
-Turnovers = 18.7 (28th)
-Assists = 25.7 (8th)

After the loss in Denver on Sunday night, Steve Kerr was asked about the offense in general.

"I don't like the looks we've been getting at all," the head coach told reporters. "We have not been executing. I thought we executed well against Utah. But this game we did not execute, Oklahoma City we did not execute.

"We're standing too much. We've gotta make some adjustments a little bit. The second unit -- we've gone away from what our identity was the last couple of years because the personnel has changed, so we've got to establish something with them.

"What we're built on is ball movement, cutting, screening -- and it just seemed like we had one iso after another. So we're not to where we need to be yet."

The analytics show that Kerr has a valid point.

Here is the Warriors' shot dashboard for all field goal attempts, courtesy NBA.com:

-18.4 percent considered "wide open" = 24th
-27.5 percent considered "open" = 18th
-43.9 percent considered "tight" = 28th

Steph Curry was also asked about the Warriors' looks thus far.

"For the most part they're good. They can get better though and they will in terms of executing and moving the ball and setting each other up," the two-time MVP told reporters. "That will definitely get better.

"Right now, I would say overall we haven't created as many open looks in terms of the flow of the game as we'd like to."

That is correct...

... except for how it relates to Klay Thompson from beyond the arc. Here is the four-time All-Star's breakdown through three games:

-1-for-1 on "tight" 3-pointers
-0-for-6 on "open" 3-pointers
-1-for-9 on "wide open" 3-pointers

Some things just don't make sense...
