The Biggest ‘What If?' Moment of Kevin Durant's Career

Kevin Durant is enjoying his summer in Los Angeles.

On Thursday, he elected to partake in a mailbag on the Bill Simmons Podcast.

One such question (from Drew in New York):

What do you consider the all-time "What If?" moment in your career?

The four options:

A) Blazers draft you over Oden (Portland took Greg Oden No. 1 overall in the 2007 draft and the Seattle SuperSonics selected Durant at No. 2 overall)

B) Harden does not get traded

C) Klay does not go off in Game 6 of 2016 Western Conference Finals (Klay scored 41 points, including 19 in the fourth quarter on 5-for-6 from deep)

D) Zaza falls into your leg, and you miss the remainder of the season (he missed 19 games)

[REWIND: Durant originally diagnosed with fractured tibia: 'I just bust out crying']

Simmons clarified: "What's the one that haunts you? Or what's the one that you say 'Thank God that went the other way.' Or 'Oh man, what would my career have been like...'"

Durant's answer:

"B"

Oklahoma City -- after winning Game 1 of the 2012 NBA Finals -- lost four in a row to LeBron James and the Heat.

Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook, James Harden, Serge Ibaka and the Thunder were considered a budding dynasty.

But days before the 2012-13 season began, Harden (along with Cole Aldrich, Daequan Cook and Lazar Hayward) was traded to the Rockets for Jeremy Lamb, Kevin Martin, a 2013 first-round pick (Steven Adams), a 2013 second-round pick (Alex Abrines) and a 2014 first-round pick (Mitch McGary).

Why? So Thunder ownership could avoid some luxury tax.

Oh, what could have been.

About Option C -- if the Thunder close the Warriors out in Game 6 and go on to beat the Cavs in the NBA Finals, Durant doesn't come to the Warriors, right? What if the Thunder lose to Cleveland?

[REWIND: Draymond '99 percent sure' Durant doesn't sign with Warriors if...]

"What ifs" are fun...
