Draymond Green won the Defensive Player of the Year award for the first time in his career.
Two voters did not think Draymond was worthy of a Top 3 finish:
- Steve Kyler of Basketball Insiders
- Marcelo Nogueira of Ole
- Kyler's Top 3: Kawhi Leonard, Rudy Gobert, Hassan Whiteside (who received just three third-place votes)
- Nogueira's Top 3: Kawhi Leonard, Rudy Gobert, LaMarcus Aldridge (the only vote he received)
Noguiera also gave Isaiah Thomas a vote (his only one) for All-Defensive Second Team, despite the fact Thomas was one of the worst defenders in the NBA.
Whoever voted for me for all defense is a REAL one. They know what's up! LOL 3rd team all defense next year— Isaiah Thomas (@Isaiah_Thomas) June 27, 2017
The other guard on Nogueira's All-Defensive Second Team -- Steph Curry (he received three votes -- one came from Kyler)
Draymond finished with 73 first-place votes, 22 second-place votes and three third-place votes for a total of 434 points.
Gobert was a distant second -- 16 first-place votes, 53 second-place votes and 30 third-place votes for a total of 269 points.
Leonard -- who won the award each of the last two seasons -- finished in third place.
In 2015, Draymond finished runner-up and was left off 42 ballots.
Last year, he finished runner-up and was left off nine ballots.
