Born in Rio de Janeiro but raised in Calif., Tony Azevedo was an adventurous child, and when he was 5, he fell on his throat while climbing a fence. He was revived twice on the operating table. He was told he wouldn’t be able to walk or play sports – but at the 2016 Olympics, Azevedo becomes the first U.S. water polo player to compete in five consecutive Olympics. His best finish was a silver medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Azevedo’s father, Ricardo, is the head coach of the Chinese women’s water polo team.
