SANTA CLARA – The 49ers played cornerback Jimmie Ward on injured reserve and promoted seventh-round draft pick Prince Charles Iworah to the 53-man roster.
The team also signed cornerback Duke Thomas to the practice squad.
Thomas originally signed with the Houston Texans as an undrafted free agent after playing college ball at Texas. Thomas was among the Texans’ final cuts. He signed with Philadelphia on Oct. 11 but was released 10 days later.
Ward was placed on injured reserve after sustaining a shoulder injury on Sunday in the 49ers’ 41-13 loss to the Atlanta Falcons.
Iworah has spent his rookie season on the 49ers practice squad after the 49ers chose him with the No. 249 overall pick out of Western Kentucky.
