Steve Kerr Reveals Main Takeaways From Warriors' First Three Practices

Kerr reveals main takeaways from Warriors' first three practices originally appeared on NBC Sports Bayarea

The Warriors opened training camp Monday, and concluded their third team practice Wednesday afternoon.

So what are Steve Kerr's general takeaways from the scrimmages so far?

"Physically, we're getting our wind," Golden State's coach told the media Wednesday. "The first day, we were really rusty and got tired quickly. Today was by far the best day in terms of our conditioning. With that said, we have a long way to go. A lot of turnovers, a lot of poor transition defense.

"And then offensively, we've got so many new guys who are being thrown together, that's it's gonna take some time to blend. So we are looking every bit like a team that hasn't played in nine months and added [a bunch of] new guys."

Kerr then offered a more optimistic assessment.

"We're really pleased with the effort, with the way their bodies are responding to the work, the approach, the attitude," he said. "We got really good guys, I'm enjoying coaching them.

"It's basically a good start. We don't look very good, but I think we're gonna make really big strides going forward."

James Wiseman -- the No. 2 overall pick in last month's NBA draft -- was allowed inside Chase Center to watch practice for the second straight day.

Draymond Green, however, still has not been cleared.

Kerr let it be known that Kevon Looney "probably" will start at center in the Warriors' first preseason game Saturday night against the Denver Nuggets.

"Looney is healthy and feeling great," Kerr said. "He's feeling excellent. That's a huge sign for us of somebody we know we can count on. And then Marquese (Chriss) was a guy who really progressed (last year), and I feel very comfortable putting him into a game.

"So right now -- without Draymond and James -- we're fine at the five."
