Willie Cauley-Stein's Warriors career is off to a tough start.
Warriors general manager Bob Myers announced Monday that Cauley-Stein suffered a left mid-foot strain last week while scrimmaging. The 26-year-old center will miss training camp and is out until late October.
"It's disappointing, for him mostly," Myers said to reporters at Warriors Media Day. "I know he was ready to go. You like to have new players get a chance to get acclimated in camp -- so for him, the coaches, myself, the whole organization, we want him to get back. The good news is he will be back ... there's nothing you can do. Injuries are clearly part of it.
Golden State opens the 2019-20 regular season on Oct. 24 against the Clippers at Chase Center. Cauley-Stein's timetable means there's a chance he misses the season opener.
The Warriors signed the former Kings center to a two-year, $4.4 million contract this past offseason with a player option for the second season. He averaged 11.9 points and 8.4 rebounds per game last season with Sacramento.
With Cauley-Stein out for training camp, Warriors coach Steve Kerr says Kevon Looney becomes the team's starting center.
