Who Is Mark Stevens, Warriors Minority Owner Banned From NBA for Year?

When the incident first happened, everyone simply assumed a Warriors fan had done an unthinkable act by pushing Kyle Lowry when the Raptors point guard fell into the stands at Oracle Arena.

It turns out it's much worse than that.

The man that pushed Lowry in the fourth quarter of the Warriors' 123-109 loss in Game 3, is actually Golden State minority owner Mark Stevens. The team and the NBA have already banned Stevens for a year, but who exactly is he?

Stevens joined the Warriors' ownership group in August, 2013. Regarded as a Silicon Valley venture capitalist, Stevens purchased the equity interests of the Warriors that were previously held by the current Kings owner, Vivek Ranadive.

"Mark will prove to be a tremendous asset to our organization as we strive to become one of the model franchises in professional sports," Peter Guber, Warriors co-executive chairman, said at the time of Stevens' hiring.

Stevens was a partner at Sequoia Capital when the firm invested in companies such as Google, PayPal and LinkedIn. Forbes places his net worth at $2.3 billion

The 59-year-old carries a Masters of Business Administration from Harvard University. He first received his Bachelor of Arts and Masters in Science at the University of Southern California.

"The future of this team and franchise is unbelievably promising and I'm looking forward to contributing my part to help us achieve our goals," Stevens said when hired by the Warriors in 2013.
