By the time Stephen Curry locked in and found his game Wednesday night, it was too late for him and for the Warriors.
Curry’s 20-point fourth quarter was enough to put the Warriors back into the game but not enough to stave off a 112-110 loss to the Nuggets at Pepsi Center in Denver.
The loss snapped the Warriors’ seven-game win streak and dropped the Warriors to 36-3 overall.
Curry finished with a game-high 38 points, while Harrison Barnes put in 18, Klay Thompson 17 and Andrew Bogut added 15 to lead the Warriors scorers.
The Warriors missed Draymond Green, who sat out to rest various ailments, the most bothersome being a sore right ankle.
Prior to the final quarter, Curry played 31 minutes but was having one of his worst games this season. Through three quarters, he totaled 18 points (6-of-17 shooting, including 2-of-9 from deep) nine assists and six turnovers.
Not until Curry’s eighth turnover -– tying his season high -- came with 7.9 seconds left and led to a pair of free throws by Gary Harris with 5.4 seconds remaining to secure the game for the Nuggets.
On a night when nobody was superb, Bogut takes the honor for being solid at center.
His line: 15 points (7-of-8 shooting, 1-of-2 from the line), seven rebounds, three blocked shots and two assists. He was minus-2 for the night.
After Jason Thompson drained a fadeaway jumper to give the Warriors a 66-60 lead with 7:04 left in the third quarter, the Nuggets responded with a 23-7 run to close out the quarter.
The Warriors shot 21.4 percent (3 of 14) during that stretch with three turnovers while Denver shot 54.5 percent (6 of 11) from the floor was 10-of-10 from free throw line during that span.
Though the Warriors rallied behind Curry, they never again tied or took a lead.
Warriors: F Draymond Green (rest, R ankle soreness) and F James Michael McAdoo (L foot toe sprain) were listed as out.
Nuggets: F J.J. Hickson (dental work) and F Wilson Chandler (R hip surgery) were listed as out.
The Warriors return to action Thursday night, when they face the Los Angeles Lakers at Oracle Arena. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:40 p.m.
