Barry Zito lost for the first time this season, as the first place San Diego Padres beat the Giants 3-2 Tuesday night.
Battling his control all night, Zito walked seven batters, and allowed six hits and three runs in just five innings. It was the first time this year the lefthander struggled, dropping his record to 5-1.
More importantly, the Giants have yet to beat the Padres this season. San Diego swept the Giants down south last month, before winning tonight's opening game of the series. With the loss, San Diego extended their lead over the Giants in the N.L. West to a game and a half.
Off the field the Giants received some good news regarding Freddy Sanchez. During a rehab assignment in Visalia, playing for Class-A San Jose, Sanchez went 2-for-4, with two double and three RBI.
