Apple Eliminates Any Reason to Camp Out for the iPad

The iPad will be like the iPhone in at least one area: marketing.

But Apple's latest mobile device will get to cut in line on the iPhone's mass distribution time line. Apple chief operating officer Tim Cook told an audience at a tech conference in San Francisco that the iPad will be widely released at retail stores like Best Buy.

When the iPhone was first introduced it was sold only at Apple and AT&T stores. It took several months before the iPhone was sold other retailers.

Cook said while the iPad would also be sold at both Apple and AT&T stores, the wait to shift to major retailers will not be long.

That of course is bad news for Apple fan boys and girls everywhere. Cook's announcement kills any reason to camp out overnight in front of an Apple store.
