Auto Workers Union Wants In on Tesla

Workers want a piece of the Tesla action.

The workers want a piece of the Silicon Valley action.

Car-makers' union United Auto Workers wants to establish a union shop at Tesla Motors' manufacturing plant in Fremont, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

The plant there was union when it was a joint venture between General Motors and Toyota. But since being taken over by CEO Elon Musk, workers have not been organized.

Meetings between Musk and UAW honchos have happened, the newspaper reported, but nothing is set in stone yet.

If UAW is successful, it would be organized labor's first successful foray into Silicon Valley.
