Google Earth Goes All Steampunk for Victorian Era Explorers

Google Earth is such a cool 21st century app, that it's hard to imagine what a late 19th century explorer would have done with it. This rig built by Steampunk artist John Knight, and on display at this weekend's Maker Faire in Detroit give us an idea.

Using RFID tags embedded in the globe, the user positions a Touchatag equipped targeting device over the continent of interest, and the Google Earth image will spin to that location.

Where would Jules Verne have gone with access to this type of technology?
