Google Files Patent for Monitoring, Reporting Potholes

Among Google's many current concerns are addressing potential bumps in the road.

According to Gizmodo, Google has filed a patent for a system that could help Google Maps plot routes that minimize potholes.

It could also help avoid Google's self-driving vehicles avoid accidents.

The abstract for the patent, filed on Aug. 18, outlines a series of potential vehicle sensors that could work with an onboard GPS system to collect and transmit data on poor road conditions "to improve driving directions in mapping software."
