Howard Stern Offers His Legitimacy to Twitter

The King of Media is finally joining social media.

Howard Stern began tweeting last week and has already built up a following of more than 176,000 people. His account was verified Tuesday by the San Francisco-based social networking site.

He sent his first tweet from David Letterman's show and quickly began using cheap tricks to increase his number of followers.

Stern promised that if he could reach 100,000 followers by a certain hour that he would get his wife model Beth Ostrosky drunk and post a picture of her in a thong on Twitter. He fell 6,581 followers short of his goal.

Perhaps the biggest part of the satellite radio host's jump to Twitter alleviates any doubts about Twitter's role as a media company.
