Netflix Inks Mickey Mouse, Streams More Competitor Scorn

The real reason Comcast may not like Netflix may have nothing to do with bandwith. But instead it may have a lot more to do with content.

The Los Gatos-based entertaintment streaming company has built itself a media empire that has forced the likes of Blockbuster to fight for survival and the likes of Apple to take a pet project seriously.

Now Netflix is adding to its arsenal by annoucing a partnership with Disney that will allow the company to stream content from the Mickey Mouse operation.

The move will give Netflix subscribers access to both Disney Channel progamming and popular shows, such as "Modern Family" and "Grey's Anatomy" from ABC.

Comcast allows users to stream programming online as well, including ABC shows. But the popularity of Netflix's low price streaming service recently pushed Comcast to demand fees for streaming the service from one of the backbone's of its network.

Comcast has assured customers it is not planning to pass the data buck on to them but with Netflix securing more deals like the Disney one, the landscape of how media is delievered and television is consumed is going to continue to change. Which may be bad news for more than just Comcast.
