Palo Alto's Tesla Named Car Of The Year

Automobile Magazine chooses Model S

A national magazine has just tapped a Silicon Valley automobile as "Car of The Year."

Automobile Magazine announced Thursday that the Telsa Model S is the best in the world.  BMW, Porsche, and others all played runner-up this year, to a car that's admittedly very expensive, and - because relatively few are being made - somewhat hard to get.

Recently released, we're just now starting to see the Model S in the wild here in Silicon Valley where, along with its electric sibling the Roadster, it has lots of cool credibility.  It's all electric, it's pricey, and it's very fast while being totally luxurious.

Automobile Magazine says it rated all contestants on reliability, desirability, packaging, and fuel economy, among other things.  Tesla CEO Elon Musk, in a press release, says: "Winning this award is great recognition of what we've accomplished as a company, and we're thrilled to receive this endorsement from one of the industry's most respected authorities."

As reader Evan Sutton (@EVSutton45 on Twitter) remarked, "We beat Detroit in baseball, now this."

If you're already a Tesla fan, recognition like this may not matter. You're already saving to put down your deposit on the Model S, or even thinking ahead to the SUV called (so far) Model X. But an award like this plays well with the automotive press, adding more credibility to a car company that regularly proves its critics wrong.
