Taiwan Fines Apple for Interfering With iPhone Pricing

Fine equates to $670,000, according to the WSJ.

Apple was telling phone providers what to charge -- so now Taiwan is telling Apple to pay up.

Apple has been fined 20 million New Taiwan $670,000 for telling Taiwanese cell phone companies what to charge for its phones and plans using the iPhone, according to the Wall Street Journal.

An e-mail chain between Apple and the biggest telecom companies on the island reveals the American company "insisted" on approving any possible plans, according to TechCrunch.

That's a violation of Taiwanese law.

Other mobile companies have had to pay similar penalties. But as TechCrunch noted, with $150 billion in cash reserves, Apple may not be compelled to change its behavior.
