U.S. Voter Registration Records Exposed on Internet: Report

It’s something we take for granted: When we vote, our vote will stay private. But the voting records of just about every American who has voted since 2000 were reportedly exposed in a publicly available Internet database containing the personal information of 191 million voters.

Security bloggers and researchers claim to have found an online database this week, containing names, addresses, and – perhaps most disturbingly – voting histories.

Bad news? Yes, says Rod Mathews of Barracuda Networks, a company that tracks online threats: If your voting history is known, "all sorts of data is known. You'll get lots of calls and emails from scammers."

At a time of year when it's not usual to get lots of calls and offers anyway, now, armed with political data, scammers could have one more tool at their disposal.

Nobody has taken credit for posting the information.
