Uber, Airbnb CEOs Top Fortune “40 Under 40” List

It's a good time to be young, rich and in the technology industry. Especially if "sharing economy" is your favorite buzz phrase.

Silicon Valley luminaries feature throughout Fortune magazine's annual "40 under 40" list, the run-down of influential people who have their best years ahead of them.

Topping the list are "sharing economy" magnates Travis Kalanick of Uber and Brian Chesky of Airbnb.

The two San Francisco-based companies have disrupted how Americans – and the rest of the world's citizens – get around via hired car and how they reserve places to sleep after they get there, Fortune noted.

"This was the year Kalanick and Chesky became the figureheads for the ongoing clash between the great potential of the Internet economy and the rules and regulations of the old economy," according to Fortune.

Uber is worth about $17 billion, Fortune estimates, and Airbnb may be not far behind.

Oh, and Kalanick likes to think of himself as "The Wolf," as in the Harvey Keitel character from "Pulp Fiction."
