Apple Boots “Best Selling” Developer From App Store

Apple says it has booted a developer and his apps from its applications store after dozens of his titles mysteriously became best sellers over the weekend.

Apple spokeswoman Trudy Muller said Tuesday that developer Thuat Nguyen was banned for "fraudulent purchases." Technology blogs said some iTunes users unwittingly had their accounts used to buy Nguyen's book apps, which at one point occupied 42 of the top 50 book apps sold in the store.

The store offers paid and free apps for the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch.

Muller said iTunes' servers, which hold users' credit card information, were not compromised. Only about 400 of the 150 million iTunes users were affected, she said.
