Petey, a 9-month-old pit bull, was found abandoned in Lomita with a gang tattoo.

A group of animal lovers is trying to find a home for a pit bull puppy that was found tied to a pole, abandoned in Lomita.

Nine-month-old Petey’s tail was broken in three places.

And his belly was marked with what appears to be a gang tattoo, as seen blurred below at right.

"Upon his rescue, the abuse he endured became evident: he was painfully tattooed with a home-made tattoo gun on his tender belly, which is forever now labeled by a Los Angeles gang sign," states an online fundraising campaign for Petey.

A senior citizen on a fixed income found Petey outside a doughnut shop several weeks. The pup was so sweet that she paid to have him dewormed, vaccinated and microchipped.

Then an animal rescue group came to take in the dog, since the woman could not keep him, the Daily Breeze reported.

Now Petey needs a forever home, and a friend of hers is helping her out. She says he is very friendly but afraid of other dogs.

By Friday, the fundraising campaign had raised $650 of its $2,100 goal, which would send for three weeks to a trainer in Nipomo who could help “undo the damage caused by his early life, the website states.

Those involved with Petey fear retribution from the gang, so they did not want their last names published.
