Harry Houdini Halloween Séance Planned in San Francisco

A Halloween séance to call up the spirit of late master illusionist Harry Houdini is planned at San Francisco's Brava Theater.

The Official Houdini Séance 2015 has currently raised over $12,000 of a $9,000 goal on Kickstarter to assist in the production of the event, which is part of the Bay Area Science Festival.

With three days left to donate, organizers have set two stretch goals: Raising $18,000 total will fund a daytime forum that will include re-enactments of Houdini's most famous escapes, such as from a straightjacket while hanging upside down, while reaching a goal of $25,000 would take care of the costs of producing a documentary about the event, which has been held in a different city every year since Houdini's death in 1926, a tradition started by his friends and relatives.

According to sfgeneology.com, Houdini may have executed magical stunts as many as four times in San Francisco in his career, including performing for inmates at San Quentin in 1915 and hanging from the side of the Hearst Building at Third and Market Streets in 1923.
