Life-Sized Marilyn Monroe Statue Stolen From Restaurant

A Bristol restaurant owner is pleading for a thief to bring back a stolen Marilyn statue.

It took less than four minutes for someone to run off with Marilyn Monroe.

Marilyn's Pub in Bristol, Connecticut, caught someone on camera stealing the restaurant's Marilyn Monroe statue just before 5:30 a.m. Sunday. The thief first backed a white van up to the patio area and walked up to the life-sized Marilyn statue. The burglar, covering his or her face from the cameras, headed back to the vehicle, opened the doors, then rushed back to sweep the 42-pound statue before dashing away.

"I think it's terrible. I think it's a sad state of affairs that somebody would take something so nice that was put at a location at an establishment for enjoyment for everybody," Marilyn's Pub patron Enrico Chiarillo.

"They steal the plants, the pumpkins, the bows off the building. The statue? That's a little too far," Diane Baral, who owns Marilyn's Pub, said.

Baral couldn't believe it when she saw the surveillance video and said it's a blow to have their well-known and well-loved blonde bombshell stolen. Inside the restaurant, another life-sized statue stands as well as pictures of Marilyn along the walls. The famous actress is an important part of the pub that's been in Bristol for three years.

"Everyone likes the Marilyn experience. They come and take pictures," said Baral.

Now Baral and the people who love sitting with the statue hope the thief caught on camera does the right thing.

"Just bring her back. She belongs here. If you like her that much, come here every night and have a couple beers with her," patron Denise Dionne said.

"Please return her. She belongs here. No questions asked. Bring her back," said Baral.

Baral says they're not going to replace Marilyn, so their only hope is the person who took her brings her back.

Anyone with information about the whereabouts of the statue is asked to call Bristol police.
