Readers Bare All in the City

An "only in San Francisco" group bares all this week.

San Francisco has a long history of unique literary events.

For example Litquake, which is now about a decade old and features pub crawls on Valencia street, is happening this week.

Writers with Drinks, another drinking and reading event, also opens this week.

Both are great events.

You can now add to that list a new group of literary minds who also like to show off their body.  The group of readers are celebrating their second annual event this weekend.

The group has its own edge on the literary scene and that edge is nudity.

"They aren't naked at Writers with Drinks," says Lady Monster, head of the group "Naked Girls Reading."

Yep, this event centers around six women reading to you and they're naked, naked, naked.

Naked Girls Reading began in May of last year by Burlesque superstar Michelle L'amour n Chicago. The group has been featured on national television and now has an international franchise.

"I started thinking: I would love to do this in San Francisco because the literature scene is great and nudity is legal, so why not bring two great loves of the city together?" says Lady Monster. "I knew this would be a success," Monster said.

The last event was called "Naked Girls Reading how to."

"This time we're getting our spooky on," quips Lady Monster. The readings will vary from classic horror tales from Stephen King to books about haunted spots in California.

Naked Girls Reading: Saturday, October 16 at the Center for Sex and Culture in San Francisco. Doors 8:00 pm General admission tickets $15. Front row $20.
