Bay Area Wimps Out on Manliest City List

Testosterone shortage reported in Bay Area

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Attention, men of the Bay Area, please put down your appletinis and pay attention.

Apparently, our manhood has been challenged by the rest of the nation, and quite frankly, this aggression will not stand.

According to a new study ranking the 50 manliest cities in America, San Francisco comes in 48th and Oakland at 44th. Other California cities didn't exactly rank super manly: Los Angeles (49), San Diego (43) and Sacramento (41). Ouch.

The study, performed by Sperling's BestPlaces, used such criteria as the number of major league sports teams, popularity of tools and hardware and frequency of monster truck rallies.

According to the study, the manliest men live in 1) Nashville, Tenn.; 2) Charlotte, N.C.; 3) Oklahoma City; 4) Cincinnati; 5) Denver; 6) St. Louis; 7) Columbus, Ohio; 8) Kansas City, Mo.; 9) Indianapolis; and 10) Toledo, Ohio.

Toledo obviously should be in the top 10 -- it is the birthplace of Joe the Plumber, the manliest man of all men.
