Ellen Santa, veteran Santarchy organizer, said she wanted to do something different this year, so she organized this bus trip that was mostly free of bars in stark contrast to the other 1500 or so Santas in the city.

Santas were told to meet at Civic Center Plaza at 12:12 p.m. on Saturday, December 12, 2009. I guess the deluge got the tweet as well.

At least the Flamenco Santas had wide rain resistant brims, although I do see a lot of holes in those hats.

There was a strange moment where some lovely ladies (and a dude) did a reenactment of the Michael Jackson Thriller music video dance.

It took me a minute to realize that everyone standing at this bus stop had "Santarchy 2009 SANTA BUH!S" laminates on.

A big black Bauer chartered coach rolled up and I discovered that those VIP badges were Santa's ticket to ride.

About 50 friends all paid $40 each to get out of the rain and into the mobile party. Santa could bring supplies for the day, but is an aluminum bat really necessary?

Up front, fun was had with the bus PA system, like playing cheesy 1980's songs into the microphone to the delight of at least two people.

In the back people were happy to have escaped the elements, and to get off of their feet. A typical Santarchy can be exhausting walking and drinking and walking and drinking and walking and drinkning... Not this year!

Ellen Santa said she wanted to give back to the community, and thought making donations to Oshun Center was a great way of doing that.

Just because the coach didn't have bars on the route, didn't mean Santa was completely sober.

Inside the Exploratorium, Santa spread out and had fun with all of the different experiments and fun things to play with. Here Chanukah Claus and his Hos check out one of the exhibits.

Naughty Santa said this is the best hangover device ever. I didn't get it first, but then I realized that you could rehydrate immediately after throwing up. Thanks Santa!

The bus was a great idea, and for only $40/person, including the Exploratorium, I think next year we may see a fleet of Santa filled buses crisscrossing the city. You better watch out!!!
